As Believers in the Lord, Do We Have the Way to Eternal Life?
The Lord Jesus said, “But whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life” (John 4:14). Many brothers and sisters in the Lord read the Lord’s word and believe that the Lord Jesus has the way to everlasting life, and He gave us the way long ago. In our years of believing in the Lord, we have continued to confess our sins and repent according to His teachings, we have suffered and paid a price to spread the Lord’s gospel, we have shepherded His churches, we have borne crosses to follow Him, we have been patient and tolerant with others, and we have not rejected His name when disasters or persecution befall us. We are able to keep the Lord’s path, so we already have the way to eternal life, and when the Lord comes, He will lift us up into the kingdom of heaven, where we will gain everlasting life. But, is that really the case? Is this viewpoint correct? Does it accord with the truth?
Actually, although we are able to labor, work, forsake, expend, take up crosses, and follow the Lord, no one can deny that we still frequently cannot help but commit sins and live trapped in a vicious cycle of sinning and confessing every day, unable to overcome the bondage and control of sin. We are incapable of adhering to the Lord’s teachings or putting His words into practice. For example: The Lord requires that we be simple, honest people, but we often tell lies and deceive to protect our own interests, dignity, or status; the Lord requires us to be tolerant and patient toward others and love others as ourselves, but when something infringes upon our own interests, we quibble over minor details, and even resent or become envious of others. The Lord requires us to love Him with all of our heart, mind, and soul, but when we preach and work, we often fail to do all we can to exalt and testify the Lord, be considerate of His burden, and make our brothers and sisters understand God’s will, and instead we often show off how much work we have done and how much we have suffered, try to make our brothers and sisters look up to and admire us, and try to bring others before ourselves. And although we forsake our homes and careers and spread the gospel wherever we can, we still often keep account of our own labors as a way to transact with the Lord and secure a share of the blessings of the kingdom of heaven. Isn’t this using and deceiving the Lord? The Lord Jesus said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, Whoever commits sin is the servant of sin. And the servant stays not in the house for ever: but the Son stays ever” (John 8:34–35). The Bible says, “For the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). God is holy, and the filthy and corrupt are forbidden to enter His kingdom. Although outwardly we forsake and expend for the Lord, we remain in bondage to sin, and our final ending can only be oblivion and destruction. How can we possibly say we’ve gained the way to eternal life?
Why We Still Do Not Have the Way to Eternal Life
At this point, perhaps some brothers and sisters are confused, because the Lord Jesus said, “But whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life” (John 4:14). The Lord Jesus is the source of the living water, He has the way to everlasting life, so why can’t we gain the way of eternal life from Him?
To understand this question, we should first understand the work of the Lord Jesus and the effect it achieves. When the Lord Jesus appeared and worked, the Israelites lived in sin, were unable to keep Jehovah’s laws, and faced the danger of being condemned to death by the laws. The Lord Jesus came, taught the path of “Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matthew 4:17), taught people to confess their sins and repent, and finally became the likeness of sinful flesh and was crucified as a sin offering for mankind, completing His work to redeem mankind. As long as we accept the Lord Jesus’ salvation and pray and confess our sins to the Lord, then our sins are forgiven, and we are then fit to enjoy the grace and blessings of the Lord and have peace and joy within my hearts. These are the outcomes that have already been achieved through God’s work of redemption. From this, we can see that although the Lord Jesus certainly did have the way to everlasting life, based on the spiritual stature and needs of people at the time, He only gave us the path to repentance, the effect of which was to make us confess and repent. He did not express the way to eternal life by which people can be delivered from sin and completely purified.
Just as God’s word says, “At the time, Jesus only gave His disciples a series of sermons in the Age of Grace on such subjects as how to practice, how to gather together, how to supplicate in prayer, how to treat others, and so forth. The work He carried out was that of the Age of Grace, and He expounded only on how the disciples and those who followed Him ought to practice. He only did the work of the Age of Grace, and none of the work of the last days. … The work of God in each age has clear boundaries; He does only the work of the current age, and never carries out the next stage of work in advance. Only thus can His representative work of each age be brought to the fore. Jesus spoke only of the signs of the last days, of how to be patient and how to be saved, of how to repent and confess, and of how to bear the cross and endure suffering; never did He speak of how man in the last days should achieve entry, nor of how he should seek to satisfy God’s will” (The Word, Vol. 1. The Appearance and Work of God. How Can Man Who Has Delimited God in His Notions Receive the Revelations of God?). “For all that man may have been redeemed and forgiven of his sins, it can only be considered as God not remembering the transgressions of man and not treating man in accordance with his transgressions. However, when man, who lives in a body of flesh, has not been set free from sin, he can only continue to sin, endlessly revealing his corrupt satanic disposition. This is the life that man leads, an endless cycle of sinning and being forgiven. The majority of mankind sin in the day only to confess in the evening. This way, even though the sin offering is forever effective for man, it will not be able to save man from sin. Only half the work of salvation has been completed, for man still has a corrupt disposition” (The Word, Vol. 1. The Appearance and Work of God. The Mystery of the Incarnation (4)).
From God’s word, we can see that the Lord Jesus only required us to do things like confess our sins and repent, no longer transgress, forsake ourselves, take up the cross and follow the Lord, love the Lord with all of our heart, mind, and soul, love others as we love ourselves, be humble, tolerant, and patient toward others, and forgive others “seventy times seven” times. After we believe in the Lord, as long as we pray to the Lord, confess our sins, and repent, our sins are forgiven. However, no one can deny that the satanic dispositions which cause us to sin are rooted deeply within us, things like arrogance, selfishness, cunning, greed, and evil. We are controlled by these satanic dispositions, and even though we outwardly are capable of some good deeds, this doesn’t represent dispositional change. When we interact with other people, for example, we are still capable of cunning and deceit. Or, when things happen that don’t accord with our notions, we often blame and judge God. In 2,000 years, all believers in the Lord, no matter how well they confess, repent, labor, and work, have been unable to escape the bondage of sin, and none have achieved change in their life disposition. This is an undeniable fact. So, we have not been delivered from sin and completely purified, and we have not gained the way to eternal life.
The way to eternal life isn’t something that simply makes us confess our sins and repent, it is the way of truth that allows us to live eternally. Which is to say, it can entirely resolve our sinful natures, save us by allowing us to escape the influence of Satan and rid ourselves of our satanic dispositions, enable us to be purified and attain full salvation from God, thereby becoming compatible with God and entirely gained by God. This kind of path is the way to eternal life. People who gain the way to eternal life as their lives, have genuine knowledge of God, are able to fear God and shun evil, can genuinely obey, worship, and love God, are completely compatible with God, and do God’s will are those who will receive God’s promise and blessings, and who are qualified to enter the kingdom of heaven.
How to Gain the Way to Eternal Life
So, how can we gain the way to eternal life? Actually, the way to eternal life is what the Lord Jesus brings when He returns. The redemption work in the Age of Grace was just to redeem us of our sins, so our sins are forgiven. This just completed half of the salvation work. However, God’s salvation will be complete salvation, so the Lord Jesus has prophesied many times that He will return, and He will do so to bring us the way to eternal life, so that we may gain everlasting life. The Lord Jesus prophesied, “I have yet many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will show you things to come” (John 16:12–13). “Sanctify them through Your truth: Your word is truth” (John 17:17). “And if any man hear My words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. He that rejects Me, and receives not My words, has one that judges him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day” (John 12:47–48). These prophecies tell us that in the last days, the Lord Jesus will return to express the truth, do the work of judgment beginning with God’s house, resolve our sinful natures, enable us to completely escape from the bondage of sin, and enable us to live out the realities of God’s word and gain everlasting life. This is to say, before God saves us and grants us life, He first redeemed us from sin by allowing us to gain the Lord Jesus’ redemption, and on this basis, He will again grant us truth that will allow us to no longer suffer the bondage and constraints of our sinful natures, purify and change our corrupt dispositions, and make us as newly created people. So, if we wish to gain the way to eternal life, we must accept the work of the returned Lord Jesus, accept the truth expressed by the Lord in the last days, and follow the footsteps of the Lamb.

通过前面的内容我们知道，主耶稣末世再来是道成肉身成为人子，所以，很多盼望主显现的人就疑惑：既然主末世再来是道成肉身的神，我们怎样才能认识他呢？🙏🙏🙏
神的话给我们指明了路。🙏🙏♥️🌿
“既是道成肉身就有神的实质，既是道成肉身就有神的发表。神既道成肉身就要带来他要作的工作，既是神道成肉身就要发表神的所是，既是道成肉身就能带给人真理，赐给人生命，指给人道路。若不具备神实质的肉身那就定规不是道成肉身的神了，这一点是确定无疑的。人要考察是否是神所道成的肉身，那就得从他所发表的性情与说话中来确定，也就是说，确定是否是神所道成的肉身，或确定是否是真道，必须得从他的实质上来辨别。所以说，是不是神所道成的肉身，关键在乎其实质（作工、说话、性情等等更多的方面），并不在乎其外表。人若因为考察其外表而忽视了其实质，那就是人的愚昧无知了。”——《话・卷一　神的显现与作工・写在前面的话》
神的话把认识道成肉身的路说得很清楚了。认识道成肉身的神不是根据他的长相，不是根据他出生在什么家庭，有没有地位、有没有权势，在宗教界有没有威望，都不是根据这些，而是根据他有没有神的实质，能不能发表真理、作神自己的工作，能不能发表神的性情，这是最关键的。他若能发表真理、作拯救人的工作，那就算他出生在一个普通的家庭，在社会上没有什么权势、没有什么地位，但他还是道成肉身的神。就如恩典时代的主耶稣出生在一个普通的家庭，降生在马槽里，他没有高大魁梧的身材，也没有地位、权势，但他能发表真理，赐给人悔改的道，能赦免人的罪。彼得、约翰等喜爱真理的人，从主耶稣的作工与所发表的真理中，看到主耶稣有神的能力、权柄，认出了主耶稣就是弥赛亚，就跟随了主，得到了主的救恩。而那些仇恨真理、崇尚权势的祭司长、文士、法利赛人等犹太教领袖，不管主耶稣发表多少真理、行多大的神迹奇事，他们都视而不见，因为主耶稣长得普通、正常，没有地位、没有权势，就当是一个普通人，甚至定罪、抵挡主耶稣，最可恶的，还把能发表真理的主钉在十字架上，这是触犯神性情的滔天大罪，遭到了神的咒诅与惩罚。他们的失败，是末世预备迎接主再来之人的教训。

Aku sudah melakukan begitu banyak pekerjaan dan mengatakan banyak firman, tetapi sampai hari ini, manusia tetap tidak dapat memahami kehendak-Ku, dan oleh karena itu setiap tindakannya yang membingungkan membuat kepala-Ku pusing. Mengapa ia selalu tidak mampu memahami kehendak-Ku dan melakukan hal-hal dengan gegabah sesuai dengan yang dikehendakinya? Apakah otaknya terkena goncangan? Mungkinkah ia tidak memahami firman yang Aku katakan? Mengapa ia selalu bertindak dengan mata lurus ke depan, tetapi tidak mampu melangkah dan menjadi teladan bagi orang-orang di masa depan? Apakah ada orang yang menjadi teladan di hadapan Petrus? Bukankah karena bimbingan-Ku Petrus bisa bertahan hidup? Mengapa orang-orang di masa kini tidak mampu melakukan hal yang sama? Mengapa, setelah memiliki teladan untuk diikuti, mereka masih tidak mampu memuaskan kehendak-Ku? Ini menunjukkan manusia masih tidak memiliki kepercayaan kepada-Ku, yang mengakibatkan situasi yang menyedihkan saat ini.

有些人一有败坏流露，就认为“我又抵挡神了，我信神好几年还没有变化，神肯定不要我了！”这种态度怎么样？他自己都放弃了，认为神不要他了，这是不是误解神哪？你这么消极最容易让撒但钻空子，撒但一旦得逞了后果就不堪设想。所以，无论你有什么难处、有什么消极都不能放弃！在人生命长进的过程当中，在人蒙拯救期间，人有时候走错路，走偏路，或者一段时间有些生命幼小的情形、表现，有时候软弱了、消极了，说句错话，栽个跟头，失败一次，在神那儿看都是正常的，神不计较。有些人看见自己败坏太深，总也满足不了神，因此心里难受，有这样懊悔之心的人还往往就是神拯救的对象，那些觉得自己不需要神拯救，认为自己已经很完美的人往往就不是神拯救的对象。我跟你们说这些话是什么意思？就是你得有信心：别看现在我软弱，我跌倒失败了，我总会长大的，总有一天我能满足神，能明白真理，能蒙拯救。你得有这个信心，不管遇到什么挫折、难处或者失败、跌倒，不能消极，你得知道神拯救什么样的人。另外，你觉得自己还不够格被神拯救，偶尔也有神厌憎或者神不喜悦的情形，或者曾经一段时间完全不蒙神悦纳、完全被神弃绝，这也不要紧，你现在知道也不晚，你只要悔改，神就会给你机会。

“On the surface, your life of humanity is arranged very well, but you have nothing to say when asked to speak of your knowledge of life; and in this you are impoverished. You must equip yourself with the truth! Your life of humanity has changed for the better, and so too must the life within you change; change your thoughts, transform your views on belief in God, change the knowledge and thinking within you, and change the knowledge of God as it exists within your notions. Through being pruned, through revelations and sustenance, gradually change your knowledge of yourself, of human life, and of belief in God; make your understanding capable of purity. In this way, the thoughts within man change, how he sees things changes, and his mental attitude changes. Only this may be called a change in life disposition. You are not asked to spend all the hours of the day reading God’s words, or washing clothes and cleaning. A life of normal humanity must naturally be endurable, at a minimum. In addition, when handling external matters, you must still use some insight and reason; but what is most important is that you be equipped with the truth of life. When equipping yourself for life, you must focus on eating and drinking God’s words, you must be able to talk of knowledge of God, of your views on human life, and, in particular, of your knowledge of the work done by God during the last days. Since you pursue life, you must equip yourself with these things. When you eat and drink the words of God, you must measure the reality of your own state against them. That is, when you discover your shortcomings in the course of your real experience, you must be capable of finding a path to practice, of rebelling against your incorrect motivations and notions. If you always strive for these things and pour your heart into achieving them, then you will have a path to follow, you will not feel empty, and thus you will be able to maintain a normal state. Only then will you be someone who carries a burden in your own life, who has faith. Why is it that some people, after reading God’s words, are unable to put them into practice? Is it not because they cannot grasp the most crucial things? Is it not because they do not take life seriously? The reason that they cannot grasp the crucial things and have no path to practice is that when they read God’s words, they are unable to relate their own states to them, nor can they master their own states. Some people say: “I read God’s words and relate my state to them, and I know that I am corrupt and of poor caliber, but I am incapable of satisfying God’s intentions.” You have only seen the very surface; there are many real things that you do not know: how to put aside the enjoyments of the flesh, how to put aside self-righteousness, how to change yourself, how to enter into these things, how to improve your caliber, and from which aspect to begin. You only grasp a few things on the surface, and all that you know is that you are indeed very corrupt. When you meet your brothers and sisters, you talk about how corrupt you are, and it seems that you know yourself and carry a great burden for your life. In fact, your corrupt disposition has not changed, which proves you have not found the path to practice. If you are leading a church, you must be able to grasp the states of the brothers and sisters and point them out. Will it do just to say: “You people are rebellious and backward!”? No, you must speak specifically of how their rebelliousness and backwardness are manifested. You must speak of their rebellious states, their rebellious behaviors, and their satanic dispositions, and you must speak of these things in such a way that they are utterly convinced of the truth in your words. Use facts and examples to make your points, and say exactly how they can break away from rebellious behavior, and point out the path to practice—this is how to convince people. Only those who do so are capable of leading others; only they possess the truth reality."
